tl;dr; home
If I’m honest, I really don’t like very much contemporary pop music. As a matter of fact, I once saw a bumper sticker that said:
It’s not that I’m old, your music really does suck!
I shook my head like a bobble head in the back window of a car in agreement with that sage bit of wisdom. And I said to myself, “That’s right!” And immediately afterwards, I followed up with, “And get off of my lawn!”
But I do try to give newer stuff a listen too. So I often listen to 107.7, The End here in Seattle on my commute home from work. Okay, quick aside here. As I was drafting this in my head, I realized that I didn’t know the call letters for this radio station. What do I do? I go to their website, conveniently named, 1077theend.com. And God as my witness, I could NOT find their call letters anywhere on their site. There is a google search that suggests it is KNDD but when you click and go to the link under there, the 1077theend.com page you land at does NOT bear the letters KNDD. So I don’t know what to tell you nor do I know what to do with this information other than to say they are my primary source for new(er) music.
It was during one of these commutes that I first heard the Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros song, Home. First of all, you have to love a tune that can feature out of tune, unison, whistling that doesn’t make you want to stab your eardrums out with an ice pick, but I digress. Next add a healthy dose of alliteration and clever rhyming. Spice it up with a lot of fun. But pay particular attention to those base notes. Their sentiment is lovely.
I hope you enjoy, Home!
Home, let me come home
Home is wherever I’m with you
Home, let me come home
Home is wherever I’m with youLa la la la
Take me home
Mama, I’m coming home
